However, patent law still applies to us all and those possessing patents on product are afforded the same legal recourses as large companies to protect our interests. Although us small companies lack the capital to invest towards exercising patent law to the Nth degree, we are still a collection of small companies and the prospect of having to hire legal repsentation to defend against patent infringement doesn't fit so well into such limited budgets. It is basically a mechanism to keep people "in check" rather than depending on others in this niche to understand and respect the delicate balance of necessary conditions for product development in such a small market.
